MANUFACTURING METHODS

Manufacturing Technology

A design can have more than one manufacturing route. Match the process to the part and project stage.

CNC machining

A route for structural parts and functional prototypes cut from stock material. Tool access, fixturing, material and volume all influence the approach and cost.

3D printing

Useful for complex forms and early design validation. Material, build orientation, surface expectations and postprocessing must be reviewed for each project.

Sheet metal

Well suited to housings, brackets and bent structures. Consider thickness, bend radius, hole-to-edge spacing and finish early in design.

Vacuum casting

Can support prototype copies and low-volume appearance or assembly checks. Master quality, material properties and quantity should be discussed together.
